Reading Rocks My World

If you’re here, I assume you enjoy reading. But when’s the first time you fell in love? Month 8 in the womb? Age 3? Age 10? 20?

I actually didn’t really consider myself a person who likes reading until 4th grade.

*cue Remembering A Time In Past Music*

It all started with…The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I read every one of those books and fell more and more in love with reading. At that age, though, I didn’t really think: I love reading. It was more of a: Lemony.

Give me mooorrrreee!

But after finishing all 13 to The End, I was…lonely.

So I started reading the Artemis Fowl Series. I loved those so much. They were my first encounter with the fey. And bad-ass geniuses. Ahh, those were the days.

I gobbled those up and was left waiting for the upcoming sequel (Which, for some reason, I have yet to get to!). What did I do after that, you ask?

Harry Potter, of course! I tried reading the Order of the Pheonix, but I only got halfway through that. I’m not good with watching movies then reading the book.

But I read Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows. I think that’s when my craving for romance happened. Ginny and Harry: awesome!

I wanted more.

And that one night, that one glorious night, I found Twilight.

Don’t cringe away, haters! I love Twilight. It started my whole life.

Am I obsessed? I was. I had the shirts, posters, bags, everything. I had friends sleep over, and Twilight was the only thing we talked about. It opened me up to this dramatic, romantic, gothy world. No, Twilight is not the best thing I have ever read. But it gave me enough longing to want more. And that’s what I did. I bought more books. I wanted more romance. I wanted action. I wanted vampires, werewolfs, eventually faeries (after reading Wicked Lovely by Marr), zombies, etc.

I will always love The Twilight Saga for opening me up to the young adult world.

I could have picked up any book at Target that night, and I would have probably fallen in love. But it was Twilight.

You’re probably wondering why I’m telling you this.

That, my readers, goes back to the title. Reading Rocks My World. Reading, in a sense, is my world. All these series carry a moment in time for me.

I remember finishing Artemis Fowl in the very spot I am sitting in now. I remember dragging my parents to the nearest bookstore during our summer vacation.

I remember going through my Twilight phase. It was fun.

I’m glad to have read so many books, each one carrying a memory.

So, that’s some of my story.

What’s yours? When did you start to like reading? What was your first series?

Email ( or post in comments! Might post them later. 😉

Thank you for reading
